<![CDATA[Marie Curie PhD Fellowship (CH12326)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CH12326 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CH12326 About the role

The International Dimensions and Effects of Populism (IDEoPOP)

The Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint two fully funded PhD Fellowships to join European Union’s Horizon Europe Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions-Doctoral Networks/UKRI for a duration of 36 months.

PhD1: Regional and international populist orders

This project analyses how populists conceive of regional and international orders. This project will provide an understanding about whether populist governments and leaders have an overall unitary conception of international order or whether this conception is segmented and depends on geopolitical factors such as belonging to specific regional orders, notions of regions and regionness as type of subsystem and order. In order to capture the expected diversity of understandings of international orders out there, the study cases will have a cross-regional dimensions, like for example, India, Turkey, Brazil and the US as well as other populist experiences. In this way, this project will also contribute to the further understanding of the reciprocal nexus of regions and international orders.

PhD2: Populist branding in international politics

This project analyses how populist leaders brand themselves in international politics. This project will bring together different theoretical elements of comparative electoral politics such as electoral branding of candidates, and electoral marketing, and foreign policy elements such as roles and identity aspects of the state to analyze how populist leaders when acting internationally also promote a type of self-brand which is used for further domestic and international identification. This project will also unveil the type of relationships that populist leaders seek to advance and locate internationally. Within this relational dimension the project also analyses whether this brand is welcomed and accepted by domestic actors and by international peers and institutions, or whether the brand as performed is challenged and adjusted as being contested. A priority for Latin American case studies (at least to a certain extent) will be given, like for example, the case of J.Milei in Argentina, J.Bolsonaro in Brazil, N.Bukele in Salvador, and AMLO in Mexico.

<![CDATA[69色情片 Assistant/69色情片 Associate (CH12254)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CH12254 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CH12254 The Department of Education is seeking a 69色情片 Associate with expertise in international student mobility (ISM) to join the Open 69色情片 Area (ORA) project ‘Virtual Mobilities of International Students: towards a new model for the internationalisation of higher education?’ (VIRMOBS).

VIRMOBS is an international comparative project led by Social Scientists in Canada, France and the UK. VIRMOBS examines the implications of virtual mobilities (namely forms of ISM where students enroll on online distance education programmes outside their home countries) for learning, cultural experience, social inclusion and the value of credentials. It asks: are virtual mobilities more sustainable, inclusive forms of ISM, or are they low-value alternatives likely to exacerbate existing inequalities? How do different national policy and regulatory contexts influence the shape and impact of virtual mobilities?

VIRMOBS will combine socio-history, quantitative and qualitative methods to examine the national, institutional and individual logics underpinning virtual mobilities in Canada, France and the UK. We will conduct documentary research, student surveys and interviews with staff and students in the three countries.

You will join the UK team and be based in the Department of Education at the University of Bath. You will contribute to all aspects of the project with a primary focus on the UK case. This will include conducting literature reviews and document analysis, designing the research instruments, setting up and conducting interviews and contributing to statistical and qualitative data analysis. You will collaborate with UK, France and Canada-based researchers, help manage and archive project data, present findings at national and international conferences and contribute to scholarly publications with the project team.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis from the 01 May 2025 with an expected duration of 33 months.

As a member of 69色情片 Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to 69色情片 Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to 69色情片 Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

About you

You will have:

 • A PhD in a social science discipline such as Sociology, Geography or Education (if you are applying for 69色情片 Associate level).
 • Expertise in qualitative or mixed research methods.
 • A good understanding of quantitative research methods.
 • A very good knowledge of the literature on international student mobility and/or global educational inequalities.
 • A good understanding of the UK Higher Education landscape and policy context.
 • Demonstrated potential to publish in high quality, peer reviewed journals.
 • An ability to work independently and collaboratively.
 • Excellent project management skills.
 • Proficiency in French is very desirable.

We are recruiting a team of ambitious early career policy sociologists to contribute to a major new £1.5million UKRI/ESRC-funded project From the Centre to the Periphery – which addresses regional economic disparities within the UK, and specifically examining the role education can play to reduce deep-seated spatial divides.

We will address this major policy challenge by carrying out the first quasi-experimental evaluation of the Opportunity Areas programme, a £100million national area-based initiative that sought to close gaps in social mobility between different regions and places of the UK. It was a long-term investment in areas of the country that have the most pronounced levels of deprivation and where social mobility is the lowest. Working with our local authority partners, the Department for Education and other third-sector organisations, our research will help to shape future area-based education and social policy.

This advertised post relates to the Bath-based 69色情片 Assistant. Running concurrently in this recruitment round is a further Durham-based 69色情片 Associate post advertised separately by Durham University.

Those appointed to these posts will work directly with our interdisciplinary team of geographers, sociologists and educationalists, including Professor Michael Donnelly (Education, Bath), Professor Nadia Siddiqui (Education, Durham), Professor Richard Harris (Geography, Bristol), Dr Joanne Davies (Education, Bath), Dr Ceri Brown (Education, Bath), Professor Matt Dickson (IPR, Bath) and Professor Nick Pearce (IPR, Bath).

The Bath-based 69色情片 Assistant will primarily be responsible for impact and knowledge exchange activities but will also contribute to some of the qualitative data collection and analysis. They will implement the knowledge exchange and impact strategy for the project, working with impact lead Dr Ceri Brown. This involves working with Dr Brown to engage key stakeholders, ensuring their knowledge is inputted into the project as well as key policy-learnings successfully impact policy and practice at national, regional and local levels.

These posts represent an excellent opportunity for early career researchers wishing to develop an academic career in public policy research – those appointed will receive mentoring from the senior colleagues involved in the project to develop co-authored and sole-authored outputs in leading academic journals that are world-leading in quality.

As a member of 69色情片 Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year

About you

These posts represent an exciting opportunity for ambitious and enthusiastic early career researchers to join one of the largest studies ever to have been carried out into spatial inequalities in education and social mobility within the UK. We are looking for somebody who is passionate about the topic area, is confident at engaging with stakeholders and the wider public, has knowledge of effective knowledge exchange activity, and has strong qualitative research skills.

Further information

This role is offered on part time (21.9 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected end date of 27/09/2027.

<![CDATA[69色情片 Associate (CH12270)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CH12270 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CH12270 About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly developed Bath Mental Health 69色情片 Group (MHRG) at the University of Bath. The MHRG is funded for an initial 5 years by the NIHR (National Institute for Health 69色情片). The focus of our work is applied research aimed at improving health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 12-25 in the local region.

The Bath Mental Health 69色情片 Group has four main work packages/themes:

 1. Creating and testing simple and widely available support for common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. This includes using digital treatments.
 2. Improving understanding, awareness, and treatment for mental health difficulties in young people who have conditions such as autism and ADHD.
 3. Understanding how many of young people in the region have issues with smoking, drinking, and drug use, and developing new ways to help reduce the harm this may cause their mental health.
 4. Finding ways to help young people who have had difficult early experiences, to stop this leading to poor mental health when they get older.

The successful applicants will work to specified projects but also draw on their unique skill set, with the opportunity to work across a range of work packages. The research of the MHRG involves quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches, including analysis of secondary data, designing and conducting new programmes of work, reporting and dissemination. Previous experience of research on the topic of children and young people’s mental health is desirable, but not essential as we primarily wish to recruit people with commitment and enthusiasm to the topic area, and relevant research skills.

We have a clear commitment to skills training and career development for all research staff working in the MHRG. You will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of world-leading clinicians and academics. The Bath MHRG is partnering with the Universities of Bristol and Exeter (as part of the GW4 network) to deliver this project and there will be ample opportunities to work with researchers at our partner institutions.

We have several full-time (1.0 FTE) posts available for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for a further 2 years. We are also open to applications from people seeking part-time roles and/or flexible working patterns. The minimum time commitment would be 2 days/week (0.4 FTE).

Due to the requirements of the post, regular in-person attendance at the University of Bath is required. Some team members will be expected to travel to undertake research activities in the local area of Bath and North-East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire. This post is therefore not suitable for someone looking for a remote position.

About you

We are looking to recruit candidates with a range of skills and experience (please note, we would not expect a single candidate to have expertise in all areas). We are looking to match project work with individual strengths and expertise. We are seeking to recruit people with a clear commitment to compliance with relevant ethical and regulatory frameworks, and to producing robust and reproducible research (open science). Candidates must enjoy working as part of a team, value inter-disciplinary research and engagement with diverse stakeholders.

Key areas include, but are not limited to:

Group 1

 • Quantitative approaches including longitudinal analysis, analysis of large datasets and/or data science
 • Data management skills
 • Ecological momentary assessment methods

Group 2

 • Qualitative methodologies including multi-perspectival analysis
 • Participatory research/co-production with an emphasis on hard to reach and underserved populations
 • Skills in engagement with young people with complex mental health difficulties/neurodivergent presentations

Group 3

 • Clinical Trials methods (including pilot/feasibility trials)
 • Knowledge of social and healthcare systems and policies
 • Digital interventions

Group 4

 • Evidence synthesis (including identifying, reviewing, and summarising what is currently known about a particular question) including meta-analysis and qualitative synthesis methods
 • Dissemination strategies including use of social media
 • Skills in engaging with end users of research, including policy makers, regulatory bodies, clinical commissioners and other key stakeholders

We welcome applications from candidates with lived experience (either personal or as a loved one/family member) of the areas within our research remit including mental health difficulties, substance misuse, neurodiversity, and Looked After Children (LAC). We aim to make this an inclusive recruitment process. Interviews will be conducted online, and we will provide interview questions in advance.

For an informal discussion of these roles please contact the Director of the MHRG (Dr. Pamela Jacobsen, pcj25@bath.ac.uk) or Deputy Director (Professor Ailsa Russell, ajr39@bath.ac.uk). Campus visits can be organised with sufficient advance notice.

The Postdoctoral 69色情片 Associate will work closely with Dr Tobias Barker on the analysis of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations (and related partial differential equations).

The candidate will have a strong background in the rigorous analysis of partial differential equations describing fluids (or describing other related physical phenomena).

This position is part of Dr Tobias Barker's EPSRC funded project "APP11616: Dynamics and regularity criteria for nonlinear incompressible partial differential equations", whose themes and objectives are to:

 • Establish necessary conditions for singularity formation for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations, that are convenient for numerical searches for singular solutions.
 • Rigorously construct solutions of the 3D Navier-Stokes equations and Euler equations that display certain features consistent with physical observations.

The successful applicant will be part of a very active Analysis group at the University of Bath, with several faculty members having expertise in fluid PDEs. The Analysis group runs a weekly Analysis seminar during semester, often hosting internationally renowned researchers.

The duration of this position is 18 months, with a start date of 1 April 2025 (negotiable) has no associated teaching obligations and has associated funding for conference attendance and training, as well as visa expenses.

About you

The ideal candidate will be a talented researcher in nonlinear partial differential equations with the ability to produce in collaboration new, original results concerning the rigorous analysis of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations (mainly singularity formation mechanisms and dynamics of solutions).

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD degree and postdoctoral experience in the rigorous analysis of partial differential equations describing fluids (or describing other related physical phenomena). It would be advantageous (though not essential) for the candidate to have experience with scientific computing.

Additional information

Candidates are required to submit a 1 page cover letter, a full curriculum vitae (including a list of publications) and a 2 page research statement outlining past research achievements and future research plans.
